Description of Design and History :
The Farahan area belongs truly neither to Western nor to CentralPersia. Some carpet specialists label the area between Qum, Kashan andSultanabad. Nevertheless, whatever the names employed, these weavingcentres have only one thing in common, they are generally of very highquality. In other respects they are dissimilar in structure, design andtype of wool. This can be illustrated by considering two specificrepresentative of their groups: Farahan and Saruk rugs, both of whichstem from this triangle, belong to the highest quality of Persiancarpets, yet possess very different features. The Farahan carpet isvery finely woven from hard wool is clipped very flat, and itsrestrained style of decoration is almost Gothic in character. TheSaruk, on the other hand is fine, is made from very much softer woolsand is more densely woven. Projecting and exuberant lust for life. Bypromoting the Farahan region in the early 18th century, Nadir Shahexerted an influence on its weaving products and on the export of thesecarpets which were prized even at this very early date. This excellantitem called Saouk farahan with almond design.
