Description of Design and History:
The Afshar of Kerman is the tribe that wove this carpet. In thisparticular Afshari rug we can recognise the influence of Azerbaijanboth in the design and weaving technique. The Afshar tribe is one thatnever produces big rugs because of its nomadic nature. It is a poortribe that often prays for rain from god so that there would be breadfor them to eat. This desire for rain is shown in their patterns intheir carpet. In this particular carpet you would see that themedallions are decorated with patterns that look like human formsraising their hands up to the air as if praying to god. Surrounding themedallions are small flower motifs in a shape of a pyramid thatsymbolises rain. This excellent design is framed with three guardstrips which are decorated in geometric design.
